Driving to Florida, Third Leg

AUTHOR’S NOTE: I pulled these cards last night for today’s 7-hour trip from Emporia, VA to Savannah, GA. As I write this, we’re at a hotel in Savannah Gateway, so the narrative in the cards proved to be accurate. Once again, I adapted the traditional meanings for the suits that appeared in the draw to better fit the context of a road trip with my wife. This time there were no Spades to complicate things.

Overview: The spread turned up three Clubs and two Hearts, suggesting a comfortably productive travel experience. There was no anxiety (Diamonds) or hardship (Spades) to deal with.

Since we’ve been married for almost 47 years, the 2 of Hearts in no way signifies “new love.” So I’m taking it to convey “good news” in that we would get off to a fine start in the morning, which in fact we did.

According to Kapherus, the 9 of Clubs is a card of travel as well as luck and achievement. He added that it is also “. . . a card of travel from the notions of time and distance. This card can represent a journey for business or for pleasure.” There is nothing about it that indicates trouble along the way, so we weren’t looking for any and received none.

The Queen of Hearts can indicate a kindly wife, and everything was OK with her for the first three hours while she was driving. Traffic was light for that part of the journey, which was uneventful.

Among other things related to ambition, achievement and success, the 10 of Clubs is “. . . a card of movement and travel. It can refer to a journey . . .” Although this was not specifically a “business trip,” it was “all business” as far as the driving went, and the outcome was successful..

When I took over the wheel for the last half of the trip, she became the Queen of Clubs, a stickler for perfection and an “active participant” in my performance (putting it mildly), especially when I began driving like an alpha male in the extremely heavy, “slow-down-and-then-go” interstate traffic on South Carolina’s crappy roadway. With all of the commercial traffic clogging up the flow, I could either go 75 mph in the passing lane or 50 mph in the travel lane, and the truck drivers kept switching back and forth so I did too. There were no near-misses like yesterday, just a few forced “brake checks,” but she seemed to think I was aiming for one.
