This spread cracks me up! Using the Gilded Tarot, I asked about the advisability of buying a new tarot deck tomorrow. The "odd" line included the 7 of Pentacles, the 7 of Swords, the 9 of Cups, and the Ace of Swords, with the Lovers as the quintessence. Sevens interest me because they represent taking … Continue reading The “Gambler’s Option” Test Case

A “Personal Encounter” Test Reading
I'm always looking for opportunities to test and validate my self-created spreads, and today I had an opportunity to do so with my "Inconvenient Truths" Personal Encounter Spread. We have friends who are going through an acrimonious divorce, and were looking for some hint of how things might go. I used Robert Place's Tarot of the … Continue reading A “Personal Encounter” Test Reading
“We Have Seen the Enemy, and He Is . . .”
I deliberately left Walt Kelly's "Pogo" observation open-ended here. I performed a test reading with my new "Mystic Traveler" spread, asking "What's up with my tarot-reading gig?" I've been an intermittent ("on-call") reader at a local New Age shop for the last year, and was led to believe that I would be at the top … Continue reading “We Have Seen the Enemy, and He Is . . .”
The World Spirit, Second Edition, Deck Interview
This sprawling RWS-based deck is one that I like to use for mundane (that is, non-psychological) questions. It has a rustic, earthy richness that makes it a good autumn and winter deck. I put my "Tell Me No Lies" Deck Personality Profile spread to it, hoping to learn something new about its inner nature. All … Continue reading The World Spirit, Second Edition, Deck Interview
The Extrovert’s Tale
Although it looks like a road-kill turtle, this layout gives a pretty good indication of how the suppressed extrovert within me can find a way out. As shown by the Swords cards in the key positions of Spirit and Senses, I live quite happily - if self-critically - in my own head. But the majority … Continue reading The Extrovert’s Tale
The Introvert is In
I performed psychological triage on myself using the "introvert-extrovert" map, mainly as a demonstration of the reading method (it didn't tell me much I didn't already know). I used the Chrysalis Tarot (really a tarot-oracle hybrid, but it behaved itself this time) for the introvert snap-shot, and the Gilded Tarot for the extrovert version. I … Continue reading The Introvert is In
Recapping the Week
Here is the complete "situational blueprint" layout for the week. I tried to make a convincing story out of the daily "action" cards but found that, once they perform their triggering duty, their influence doesn't spill over into the following day. It's interesting that the first half of the week had absolutely nothing to do … Continue reading Recapping the Week
“Weekly Blueprint” Pull for Sunday
Before I delve into the final installment of this week-long saga, I wanted to mention a remarkable bit of corroboration I received about the forecast for a "Tower" event on September 29th. As I usually do at lunar phase changes, I went back and examined the Lunar Month Look-ahead reading I did on September 23rd … Continue reading “Weekly Blueprint” Pull for Sunday
Liber T and Navigators of the Mystic SEA: A Deck Comparison
By way of offering an example reading for my "Friend or Foe" two-deck comparison layout, I decided to run the spread on the Liber T, Tarot of Stars Eternal and Navigators of the Mystic SEA decks. I've had both decks for a while and have used them together before. Both are Thoth clones, and I … Continue reading Liber T and Navigators of the Mystic SEA: A Deck Comparison
“Weekly Blueprint” Pull for Saturday
The "action" card for today is the Universe reversed. All images copyright U.S. Games Systems, Inc, Stamford, CT and M.M. Meleen The first thing that crossed my mind on seeing this card was "unfinished business" related to the Tower I pulled yesterday. The second thing was the old chestnut "waiting for the other show to … Continue reading “Weekly Blueprint” Pull for Saturday
