Any major transition, whether corporate, political or sociological, can produce significant upheaval in the "receiving" organization. This is especially unnerving for those on the lower rungs of the pecking order, whose best interests aren't always served by the leadership in these situations. This spread is designed for subordinate members of any group to explore important … Continue reading The “Take No Prisoners” Transition Spread
The Multi-Billion-Dollar Question
Full Disclosure: Before I get into this, know that I'm a cryptocurrency skeptic, even if Microsoft did infuse it with credibility. I just can't see how something with no intrinsic value, created out of thin air and fueled only by hope and greed, can have a secure place in "real world" economics. Some critics call … Continue reading The Multi-Billion-Dollar Question
The Best-Laid Plans: An Alternative Action Spread
When querents bring a planning question to the table, they typically have at least a rough idea of what they want to do, although it may be founded more on hope and conjecture than clear-eyed foresight. Most are aware they need a fall-back position, or "Plan B," to which they can resort if things don't … Continue reading The Best-Laid Plans: An Alternative Action Spread
An Example Reading with the “Destiny’s Dartboard” Timing Spread
I had a near-term timing question that I thought would be a perfect opportunity for testing this spread. A couple of weeks ago I submitted an article to the publisher of The Cartomancer quarterly journal for possible publication. (This wasn't a "shot in the dark" since I've had several articles published there already). She got … Continue reading An Example Reading with the “Destiny’s Dartboard” Timing Spread
The “Wrapper” and the “Filling”
As a continuation of my last post, I want to talk about reading style. Interpreting a tarot spread can be a little like eating an enchilada. You have the "wrapper" (the visual presentation captured in the images) and the "filling" (the core meaning of the cards). It can be all too easy to become seduced … Continue reading The “Wrapper” and the “Filling”
Crossing the Line
There is mixed opinion in the tarot community about whether it's necessary for a reader (at least in a face-to-face setting) to know exactly what a sitter wants before attempting a reading. Some ask the sitter to tell them the specific question, others want to know as little as possible in advance. My early tarot … Continue reading Crossing the Line
The “Destiny’s Dartboard” Event Timing Spread
The first thing almost every sitter wants to know from a reading is whether something will happen. But right on the heels of that objective is usually an anxious "If so, when?" The timing of a projected event is one of the thorniest questions facing any diviner, and numerous attempts have been made by spread … Continue reading The “Destiny’s Dartboard” Event Timing Spread
Recycled Material
Since I have nothing new to say today (not yet, anyway, although the day is still young), I thought I would reflect on the course of this blog since its start-up last July. Although I make a dedicated effort to avoid it without good reason, with over 400 posts now you may notice that I … Continue reading Recycled Material
An Example Reading with the Personalized Astrological Spread
I performed a reading with the personalized astrological spread I described in my last post. The question was "How will our planned cross-State household relocation go this Summer?" I used the Thoth deck for the house/sign template and the Liber T, Tarot of Stars Eternal as the reading deck. My Significator, the Knight of Cups, … Continue reading An Example Reading with the Personalized Astrological Spread
Personalizing the Astrological Spread
An interesting question came up on Saturday while I was giving a presentation on the Golden Dawn's Opening of the Key spread. It's been said that, due to its extreme complexity (and, I might add, its redundancy), the members of the Order almost never did all five operations of the OotK, contenting themselves with the … Continue reading Personalizing the Astrological Spread
